Police wait for baby's post-mortem

Police are waiting on post-mortem results to determine how a baby died in Christchurch on Wednesday.

The death of one-year-old Aaliyah Ashlyn Chand, is being treated as a homicide.

She was admitted to Christchurch Hospital on Tuesday with a serious head injury.

She was taken to hospital by her regular babysitter and a neighbour.

Police have completed scene examinations of the babysitter's house on Worcester Street and the baby's parents' home in the Christchurch suburb of Addington.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Anderson said the post-mortem was carried out on Thursday and the results should be available in the next few days.
