Arrest warrants issued for trout poachers

1:26 pm on 12 January 2015

Two Bay of Plenty men, behind what Fish and Game described as one of the worst trout poaching cases in a decade, have had warrants issued for their arrest after they failed to turn up for sentencing.

David Leef and Thomas Tawha were found guilty of taking more than 60 Rainbow Trout from Lake Rotoiti in June and July last year.

They failed to turn up for their sentencing at the Rotorua District Court today.

Judge James Weir issued warrants for their arrests and ordered the men to be held in custody until he returns to Rotorua in about two weeks time.
