Geoff Douglas Hart's ute struck Christine Anne Fairweather, 57, in pouring rain at 11.50pm on 2 August while she was removing metal barriers placed illegally on State Highway 3 near Normanby.

Hart, 28, who stopped immediately and performed CPR on Mrs Fairweather, had earlier pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving causing death when he appeared in the Hawera District Court.

Police prosecutor Steve Hickey said police now knew who put the barriers on the road but have yet to decide what charges will be laid.
