Arrests after axe attack in Nelson

Two men have been charged with assault after a man was attacked with a tomahawk in Nelson.

Members of the public called police yesterday after seeing a man with the weapon on the Railway Reserve in Stoke.

As officers responded, the hospital called to say they were treating a patient who said he had been attacked by a man with a tomahawk at a nearby property.

The victim suffered bruising and grazes to his face and head.

One of the charged men was found on the Railway Reserve and the second man arrested this morning.

Both men - aged in their twenties - have been charged with injuring with intent to injure and other charges are likely.
