Police numbers will be beefed up on public transport networks during the NRL Auckland Nines at Eden Park in two weeks, Auckland's mayor says.
Last month, after the Christmas in the Park concert, a brawl broke out in Britomart involving about 100 people, understood to be from rival gangs.
The violence spread to other stations after the crowd was dispersed.
Mr Brown said he did not want a repeat of such violence.
"The other night was something of a wake-up call, to just remind us and ensure that we're able to deliver very very high standards of event and show management and security and safety."
Mr Brown said more police at Britomart would have stopped the fights.
