Woman's burnout goes wrong

7:57 pm on 26 January 2015

A woman trying to do a burnout as she left a packed Tasman picnic spot hit a parked car before careering over a bank - and police say it was sheer luck no one was hurt.

Constable Peter Jackson said the police were investigating the incident at the popular Lee Valley picnic spot on Sunday.

Witnesses told police the woman was attempting to do a burnout as she left the reserve about 5pm. Instead, the car careered across the carpark and hit a parked vehicle before going over a bank.

A 19-year-old woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries and the police are awaiting the results of a blood alcohol test, Mr Jackson said.

It was unclear whether her injuries resulted from the crash, as witnesses also reported she was involved in a scuffle with a group of people afterwards, he said.
