6:08 pm on 31 January 2015

Eleven Christchurch high school students had a lucky escape when their minibus was written off in a crash.

Police say the Burnside High school students were all wearing seatbelts and suffered only minor injuries in the crash at Orari, near Temuka, on State Highway One yesterday afternoon.

They said the students were on their way to a rowing regatta at Twizel when, according to a witness, the minibus crossed the centre line and collided with another vehicle.

The sole occupant of the that vehicle suffered two broken ribs.

The female driver of the minibus was uninjured but three of the High School students were taken to Timaru Hospital for treatment for minor seatbelt injuries, and a chipped tooth.
