A post mortem is being held on the body of a 71 year old Taranaki woman found dead at her home in Stratford on Friday.
The woman has been named as Gwendoline Blake.
A 47-year-old man appeared in court yesterday charged with her murder, and was remanded in custody to appear at the New Plymouth District Court tomorrow.
Police said he was known to the woman but were not releasing any further details.
They say an examination of the scene is likely to be finished in the next 24 hours.
