Auckland bus crash causes traffic chaos

6:15 pm on 4 February 2015

A bus crash north of Auckland has brought power lines down and is completely blocking traffic on a main road during peak hour.

The crash happened just after 4pm on Whangaparaoa Road, near Hobbs Road.

A police spokesperson said no one was injured but both lanes were blocked and traffic was unable to get past the crash site and into Gulf Harbour.

Rodney District Civil Defence co-ordinator Patricia Dallas said the area was chaotic.

"Powerlines, unfortunately, are down and, of course, there is just tremendous chaos with all the returning workers going both ways.

"Those from Gulf Harbour can't get through and those from the city can't get through to Gulf Harbour and Army Bay.

"Just one hell of a lot of vehicles just not going anywhere."

A heavy haulage truck was working to remove the bus, and motorists were advised to avoid the area.
