Three Ashburton men have been charged after an argument in which a man was hit in the face and struck three times with a hammer, last night.
The victim was taken to Ashburton Hospital for treatment and is now recovering at home.
Canterbury Police were blaming the incident on alcohol, which they said fuelled a fight between three flatmates and a visitor.
Two men aged 23 and 29 were charged with assault and a 26-year-old man was charged with injuring with intent to injure.
They were bailed to appear in Ashburton District Court later this month.
