One of Auckland's most popular beaches will be off-limits to swimmers after a bacteria scare.
Auckland Council said weekly testing at Takapuna Beach showed the level of bacteria in the water could be a risk to human health.
Earlier this week Clarks beach and Laingholm beach were closed for the same reason.
The Council was also checking whether the beaches at Milford, Mairangi Bay and Long Bay were suffering from the same problem.
Test results were due today.
The Council said it did not know how the beaches had been contaminated but signs were up warning of the risk.
