Wellington likely to get cheaper power

7:27 pm on 27 February 2015

Wellington residents and businesses can look forward to cheaper power this winter, with the region's electricity lines company reducing its charges.

Wellington Electricity Lines Limited has announced it is cutting lines tariffs by 10 percent for 12 months from 1 April.

Lines charges make up to 40 percent of a household's power bill.

The company's chief executive Greg Skelton said he expected power companies would pass the price drop to consumers.

However, he said the impact on power bills would depend on various factors, including the price plan properties were on and their annual consumption.
