A Christchurch truck driver has been remanded on bail for careless driving resulting in the death of a Taiwanese tourist who was cycling in Christchurch.

The truck driver, David Peter Connell, was driving a truck and trailer unit on 29 September last year when he hit Ming Chih Hseih, a Taiwanese tourist cycling south along Carmen Road in Hornby.

David Connell was granted a registrar's remand on bail to apply for legal aid.

He is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court later this month.
