12:18 pm on 17 March 2015

A man with a child and a loaded gun in his car rammed two police vehicles during a pursuit in Blenheim, police say.

Officers spotted a driver going the wrong way on Market Street in the centre of town, just before 11pm yesterday.

Police say they signalled for the man to pull over but he ignored them and they pursued him through Blenheim for about 16 minutes.

When he stopped at a roundabout officers blocked him in, but the driver rammed a police car and drove off.

Police blocked him again at a petrol station where he rammed another police vehicle, before officers were able to get him out of the car.

Police say they found a child along with drugs, a loaded firearm, and other weapons inside the car.

A 41-year-old man is facing multiple charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and driving in a dangerous manner, and was due to appears in Blenheim District Court today.
