Shivneel Kumar and Bryne Permal, both in their early 20s, are charged with killing Shalvin Prasad, 21, who was burnt alive and whose body was found in scorched scrub in Kingseat in 2013.

The Crown said Mr Prasad was killed for the $30,000 he had withdrawn from his bank, and showed CCTV footage of the accused on a spending spree in the days after the death.

But the defence said there was a vacuum of evidence, and nothing to show an intentionally murderous injury to Mr Prasad, who might have appeared to be dead when he was set alight.
