Police are working to identify a man who was found dead on a road in Northland next to his trail bike.
A member of the public found the dead man and his motorcycle about 4am.
Police say the man and his bike were in a ditch and would have been difficult for passing drivers to see.
State Highway 1 North of Apotu Road, in Kauri, was closed for most of the morning and the Serious Crash Unit was at the scene.
