Wellington Fashion Week cancelled

2:39 pm on 2 April 2015

Wellington Fashion Week has been called off a week out from its scheduled start date.

The Wellington City Council was a sponsor of the show but said it would not happen this years.

The council said its funding would instead be put into next year's show.

Fashion public relations consultant Paul Blomfield said designers were not signing up for the event.

"I just believe that this year there was a certain amount of exhaustion in the industry and they said 'look, you know, not this year, maybe next year'."

"And that's the prerogative of any business to decide whether they're going to support an even or not, it's got to make dollars and cents."

Mr Blomfield said the organisers had not sold any tickets yet because the designers had not confirmed, so no one would lose money.

Wellington Fashion Week's director could not be reached for comment.
