Man rescued in Wellington Harbour dies

The man who was rescued from the sea in Wellington Harbour by two people on Monday has died in hospital.

Boobesh Palani, 26, was rescued by a man and a woman who by swam out to him and, finding him unconscious, pulled him to shore and began CPR.

Emergency services rushed Mr Palani to hospital where he was put on life support.

Detective Sergeant Grant Carroll said officers have spoken to Mr Palani's family, who thanked the community for their support over the last few days.

He said police were still investigating the accident.

The death has been referred to the coroner.
