Police charge man after axe attack

The police have charged a man after an axe attack on two fishermen at Leigh, north of Auckland.

Police said the men had been fishing at the Ti Point wharf last Wednesday.

A man with a small axe assaulted and robbed one of the fishermen, before being joined by a second offender.

The second fisherman was also assaulted.

A 34 year-old man has been charged with aggravated robbery, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and reckless driving.

He is due to appear in the North Shore District Court this afternoon.

Police were still trying to find the second attacker.
