The Anglican Church says feedback shows a proposal to rebuild Christchurch Cathedral using a design by Sir Miles Warren is gaining support as a way of breaking the deadlock over the building's fate.

The church's property trustees have been seeking feedback on Sir Miles's proposal to rebuild the quake-damaged cathedral to its original design but using wooden interiors.

The church spokesperson, Jayson Rhodes, said most of those who have submitted feedback on the church's website support the proposal.

He said the feedback was interim, but it also matched feedback coming in directly to the church.

Mr Rhodes said a clear theme was that people hoped the proposal would allow work on the building to get under way.
