A 50-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating a homicide east of Kaitaia.
Police said a 29-year-old man turned up at Kaitaia Hospital at about 10.30pm last night, and died shortly afterwards from his injuries.
A team of 17 officers is working on the inquiry, including investigating a dispute that happened in Fairburn, east of Kaitaia earlier.
Child Youth and Family is assisting police, providing specialist interviewers and counselling for four children, aged between three and 13, who witnessed the incident.
The arrested man will appear in the Kaitaia District Court tomorrow.
A post-mortem will be conducted in Auckland tomorrow.
