Bad weather has forced the police to call off the search for a Dunedin student missing in Mount Aspiring National Park.
The 20-year-old American national became separated from a group of overseas students tramping in the Gillespie Pass area on Saturday afternoon.
Several items of clothing and a backpack belonging to her have been found in the upper basin of the Young Valley.
A Police spokesperson said the search team was re-grouping to discuss the next step but it was still a search and rescue mission.
The Department of Conservation describes The Pass Circuit as a 58 kilometre round trip, suitable for relatively experienced trampers.
