A couple have been found guilty in the High Court in Wellington today, for their involvement in a scam offering advertising to businesses.

The Serious Fraud Office says Noelene Kay Banton and Johannes Middeldorp attempted to obtain more than $1 million from about 1000 victims.

It said they promised prospective advertisers they would print and distribute their advertisements, using ads from genuine publications as examples of their work.

Both were found guilty of seven charges of dishonestly reproducing documents with intent to deceive and both were acquitted on two charges

Two other defendants who previously pleaded guilty were sentenced to home detention and community work.

Another who also pleaded guilty is yet to be sentenced.

Banton, 61, and Middeldorp,63, will reappear for sentencing on 12 June.
