Massey bans watches during exams

Massey University is banning students from wearing watches during exams.

The move has been made because new smart watches can now access the internet, making cheating easier.

Massey University James Gardiner says all watches will be banned immediately.

"The smartwatches, in some cases, are indistinguishable from the regular watches.

"So it's just a case of making life easier for the invigilators."

He said if invigilators had to inspect the watches of 100 students it would just be a waste everyone's time.

Mr Gardiner said he had not heard of any resistance from students about the idea yet.

At least one other institution, Auckland University, appeared to be considering a change too.
