Auckland Prison at Paremoremo is looking to upgrade its sewerage plant, after sewage leaked from a manhole last month.

Corrections Department spokesperson Natasha Posseniskie said an electrical fault caused a flow the pipes could not handle, hence the overflow.
She said a pump had been replaced and the manhole repaired, but in the long-term the pipes would have to be upgraded.
