New motorway section for Warkworth

3:51 pm on 30 May 2015

Residents living north of Auckland are excited that funding has been approved for a new motorway section to Warkworth.

The Government has announced the new motorway section, sometimes dubbed the "holiday highway", will be built as a public-private partnership.

It will create 18 kilometres of four-lane motorway between Puhoi and Warkworth.

The Transport Agency said it hoped construction could begin late next year.

The chairperson of the Sandspit Residents' and Ratepayers' Association, Ken Bogue, said the existing road was sub-standard and quite dangerous.

He said if the North was to develop, better access must be built first.
