Flash flooding is now affecting parts of Christchurch after heavy rainfall in the city.

There is surface flooding on Fendalton Road and one lane has been closed while flooding is also affecting parts of the residential red zone, around River Road.
There are also reports of flooding in the southern suburb of St Martins, near the river.
The Christchurch Transport Operations Centre says contractors will be checking roads and drivers are being urged to take extreme care.
The rain is expected to ease this afternoon.
