A man armed with a BB gun has been arrested at the Britomart train station in central Auckland during the commuter peak.
A train was stopped at Glen Innes Station and searched by armed police after reports the man boarded the train as it left Britomart about 5.20pm.
However, security staff spotted the man still at Britomart and he was arrested.
Inspector Andy Brill said it was followed by reports that someone fitting the man's description had boarded a train leaving the station.
The police said they were questioning the man and they had not made a decision yet whether to charge him.
They said they regretted the delay to commuters who were on the train that was searched.
