The man was threatened with a knife at the Westpac ATM on Christchurch's Colombo Street just before 7am.

He was pushed to the ground where he was stabbed twice in his left calf.

He received medical treatment and is recovering at home.

The police would like to talk to the driver of a black two-door car with distinctive silver-trimmed mag wheels and a spoiler, which appeared to chase the attacker, who ran down Colombo Street before jumping a fence into a nearby property.

Officers would also like to talk to anyone else who may have witnessed the attack.
