Police have released the name of a toddler who died at her home in Hawera, in Taranaki.
Emergency services were called to a Hawera property late on Friday night but ambulance staff could not revive the two-year-old girl, named today as Esme Claire Kinraid.
A 27-year-old Hawera man has been charged with assault in relation to the death and remanded in custody.
He will appear in the Hawera District Court tomorrow.
The coroner has been notified of the death and a post mortem was completed over the weekend.
