A worker at Port Otago has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after his straddle carrier crashed.

The male driver, in his 30s, was in his cab at the top of the machine, moving shipping containers at Port Chalmers, when it toppled over at about 1.20pm.
Health and safety regulator Worksafe said it had been notified and was making preliminary enquiries to decide if it would launch a full investigation.
The port was closed after the accident and will not reopen before 7am.
Port Otago CEO Geoff Plunket said the straddle carrier involved was less than 18 months old and was being operated normally at the time of the incident, in fine conditions.
He said the port was still accepting any cargo by road and rail until tomorrow morning.
