Three in hospital after Auckland police chase

Three people are in hospital after a police pursuit in Auckland ended in a car crash.

Police approached the driver of a stolen car in Whitford, in the city's south-east, who refused to stop and fled along Sandstone Road at 1pm today.

The driver crashed while attempting to avoid road spikes near the intersection of Whitford Park Road.

Three passengers in the vehicle were taken to Middlemore Hospital, including two males with moderate injuries, and one female in serious condition who was not wearing a seatbelt.

Police said the stolen car was believed to be linked to an earlier burglary.

Investigations continue into the incident, which is being referred to the Independent Police Conduct Authority.
