Police in Canterbury say a forensic investigation of the house where a 15 month-old boy was found unconscious last night will take three or four days to complete.

Emergency services were called to a property in Truman Rd, in the Christchurch suburb of Bryndwr, shortly after 10.30pm yesterday.

The baby was found unconscious and with unexplained injuries and died soon after being taken to Christchurch Hospital's emergency department.

Detective senior sergeant Michael Ford said police had spoken to the two adults living at the house and were awaiting the results of a post-mortem being done this afternoon.

He said they would work tirelessly to find out how the baby was injured.
