Men remanded in custody over Nelson attack

Both men charged in relation to an assault in Nelson on Saturday have been remanded in custody.

Bruce Mortimer, 46, received head injuries in the attack at the Franklyn Village apartment complex and died later in Wellington Hospital.

A 27-year-old man charged with intent to injure has been granted interim name suppression in the Nelson District Court and remanded in custody until Thursday.

A 17-year-old, whose name has also been suppressed, was remanded in custody overnight on the same charge, pending a bail hearing tomorrow.

He was due to come up before the court again on 29 July.

The police said further charges were likely.
