A man charged with murdering a woman at their Papatoetoe home in April has pleaded not guilty.

The 38-year-old, who has name suppression, appeared briefly at the High Court in Auckland today where his lawyer, Marie Dyhrberg QC, entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf.

Ms Dyhrberg said the man had been treated for mental health problems at the Mason Clinic but was now in prison.

Police had previously said they were called to the house in Papatoetoe where they found a 48-year-old woman bleeding heavily. Ambulance staff tried to revive her but she died at the scene.
