A man charged in connection with the death of a baby on the Kapiti Coast has been remanded in custody until 2 September.
The six-month-old girl was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after the police were called to a Raumati Beach address on Monday night, but she died the next day.
The 31-year-old man appeared in the Porirua District Court this morning for the second time this week, and Judge Jan Kelly extended his interim name suppression.
The judge said that by the time of his next appearance, name suppression could be lifted, given the public interest in the case.
The accused was ordered to undergo a psychiatric assessment to determine if he is fit to enter a plea at the Family Court in September.
