Storm floods Auckland homes

10:03 pm on 15 July 2015

A sudden burst of heavy rain has flooded at least 50 homes in west and south Auckland over the past couple of hours.

The Fire Service says most of the flooding has been minor, but in the worst cases is knee-deep.

It said it was no longer receiving emergency calls in west Auckland, as the storm was fast-moving and had started affecting people in the southern suburbs.

Some of the worst flooding is in Opaheke, south of Papakura, where several homes on Judge Richardson Drive have more than half a metre of water in them.

There have been no reports of injuries.

Lines company Vector said about 1600 homes in St Heliers had been without power earlier this evening, but it had since been restored to all but a few dozen.
