Police in Opotiki are investigating the death of a teenager who appears to have been hit by a car.
The 14-year-old girl was found injured early this morning in Goring Street and was treated by paramedics at the scene, but died on the way to hospital.
Police said it appeared she was struck by a car that did not stop.
They are appealing to the driver to come forward and are asking the public for information to help identify the car and the driver.
The teenager is believed to have been at a family member's house, which she left just before she was injured at 3.45am today.
Her name has not been released.
