Police said a man stabbed the male attendant at least three times in his head, face and arm.

The man entered the Mobil service station in Oxford Street at about 4am with his face covered in a white bandanna type cloth.

Police said he stabbed the attendant and demanded cigarettes, then stole an unknown amount and took off.

Detective Mike Deegan said the man was wearing distinctive navy and white coloured shoes.
