Police have confirmed a 55-year-old woman has died, following an early morning crash in South Canterbury.
Inspector Dave Gaskin said emergency services were called to a two-car crash on State Highway One between Rangitata and Orari, shortly after 6am today.
The driver and sole occupant of a Suzuki, a 55-year-old woman living in Timaru, was confirmed dead at the scene.
A man, who was the driver and sole occupant of a Ford Ranger, was taken to Timaru Hospital and has since been discharged.
Police investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing and the woman's death has been referred to the coroner.
