Woman faces dangerous driving charges

6:52 pm on 29 August 2015

A woman is facing multiple charges after the police say she drove drunk through a checkpoint in the Taranaki town of Hawera with four children in her car.

Police said the 28-year-old led them on a short, high speed pursuit last night when she did not stop to be breath-tested.

Two patrol cars were eventually able to stop the woman who the police said was four times over the legal driving limit.

She has been charged with excess breath alcohol, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and the ill treatment of the four children, aged between four and 14.

She will appear in the Hawera District Court on Monday.
