Hamilton police crashed a patrol car into a pole while responding to an urgent call for help from two officers confronted by drunken teenagers last night.
City Area Commander Inspector John Kelly said an officer safety alarm was set off when one the officers was assaulted in the confrontation with at least seven teenagers.
They said one of the responding cars lost control in the wet on the Dinsdale roundabout and hit a lamp post.
No one was injured but the patrol car and the post suffered significant damage.
The police have arrested two teenagers, and are looking for others.
