Selwyn wants boost to local business

3:21 pm on 14 September 2015

Canterbury's Selwyn District Council is looking at ways to attract more businesses to the area to cater to the booming population.

The council is proposing changes to the district plan to identify central areas of Lincoln and Rolleston as 'key activity centres', which will allow more businesses to operate.

Currently 70 percent of residents' spending on shopping is outside Selwyn.

The council also wants to create a large retail, office and trade space near the intersection of Hoskyns and Jones Roads, and more industrial land to the north of Rolleston.

Lincoln's population is expected to double to 10,000 by 2030 while Rolleston's population is expected to grow from 13,000 people to 20,000.
