Two police officers have saved a man from a burning house in Nelson.

They were first to arrive at the two-storey Atawhai Drive property at about six this morning.
Fire had engulfed the kitchen and they broke in to rescue the man from an upstairs bedroom.
The man was the sole occupant of the house at the time.
Senior Sergeant John Price said their quick actions and bravery saved the man's life.
The police said they were treating the fire as suspicious and are investigating.
