A cyclist in his 20s has died after being hit by a car near Mapua, near Nelson.
Police said the man was struck by a vehicle on Te Mamaku Drive, State Highway 60, about 10.30pm last night.
The man had earlier been seen riding a bicycle and a bike was found nearby.
The driver of the car was not injured.
Police were calling for drivers who saw the man cycling on the road to contact them.
The death has been referred to the Coroner.
