Second body found at waterfall

A second body has been found by police divers at a waterfall in a popular Bay of Plenty park.

One man drowned and his body was recovered yesterday, after falling off a rope swing at McLaren Falls Park in the Kaimai Ranges.

A second man disappeared after he dived into the water to help him, and a helicopter and coastguard crew, using sonar, searched the water until late last night.

The police dive team took over the search today and found the second body a short time ago.

Police said family had been informed.

The Tauranga City Council has opened up most of McClaren Falls Park again after the deaths.

The city council said even though the park had re-opened, the lake remained out of bounds to the public.

It said this meant no fishing, swimming or other activities on the water were allowed until Saturday.
