A woman is undergoing surgery in Auckland hospital after a shooting at a hotel in the central city this morning.

Police and ambulance were called to the Auckland Harbour Oaks hotel in Gore St, near Britomart, shortly after 10am today and found a woman who had been shot in the leg.
Her condition is described as serious but stable.

Police said they did not believe the man who shot the woman posed any danger to the public.
Senior sergeant Matt Knowsley said they arrived to find the woman seriously injured.
He said the police were still trying to ascertain what happened, as many of the hotel's guests were out when the incident happened.
"We believe the attackers are known to her and we have leads to follow, but there is nothing to suggest that he poses a wider risk to members of the public."
