Emergency services are at the scene of a fatal head-on crash between a car and truck on a gravel road in South Canterbury.
Emergency services were called to the crash on Mitchells Road near Rakaia just after midday.
A police spokesperson said the driver of the car died at the scene and the road remained closed while police worked to establish the cause of the crash.
The death brings the holiday road toll to six.
