Fire crews stay at Auckland house overnight

9:01 pm on 1 February 2016

Fire crews will remain overnight watching for flare ups at the scene of a house fire in the Long Bay regional park on Auckland's North Shore.

At its peak, 10 fire trucks were needed because of a localised shortage of water.

The Fire started shortly before 5pm today.

There was no one in the two-storey council-owned house, which was well ablaze when the first crews arrived.

Auckland Council's parks manager Mace Ward said the park's ranger used to live in the 1970s house, but it was now privately rented.

"I understand that the house was extensively damaged by the fire, we're just pleased that no one's been hurt in the fire

"And we're currently working with the tenants to ensure they're safe and have a place to stay this evening."
