How Auckland was hit by bus strike

Hundreds of Auckland bus drivers have now walked off the job leaving tens of thousands of morning commuters to try to make their own way to work and school.

* Traffic is heavy on Auckland roads and there is standing room only on the trains.

* Tens of thousands of commuters have to find another way into the centre city

* Local roads and some main arterials, such as Dominion Road, are choked with traffic that is barely moving

* All bus services for Metrolink, North Star, Go West, Waka Pacific, Link and some Howick and Eastern services stopped running at 4am this morning.

* The strike will continue until 4am Saturday.
